Invitation: ISO9001 / 14001 Awareness Events
Menter A Busnes would like to invite you to our ISO 9001/14001 awareness event that will be held at the following locations during the month of February.
15th of February 2012, Coleg Powys, Llanidloes Road, Newtown, Powys SY16 4HU
16th of February, The Barn at Brynich, Brecon Powys LD3 7SH
The events are being organised by the Welsh Government’s Supplier Development Service. The Supplier Development Service aims to develop and assist companies to tender and win contracts within the public and private sector.
A large number of tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires both within the public and private sectors request ISO 9001 quality management accreditation or the ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation as part of the tendering qualification criteria. These awareness workshops are designed to give companies an insight into what it involves to become accredited with either or both of the accreditations above, what benefits are to businesses, what costs are involved, how long it will take to become accredited, what implications will it have on businesses, and whether it is worth pursuing this route for your company.
The workshop will be divided into two sessions as follows
9:15am - 12:45pm - ISO 9001 Introduction to Quality Management Systems
1.30pm - 5.00pm - ISO14001, Introduction to Environmental Management Systems
You are welcome to attend one or both of the sessions as shown above.
If you would like to join us at this workshop, please register by telephoning Guto Carrod on 01970 636283 or e-mail guto.carrod@menterabusnes.co.uk.

Building for 2012 Investment opportunities for tourism businesses
‘Building for 2012’ is a short-term, fast-track initiative which forms part of the Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS). This new initiative will support micro, small and medium sized tourism businesses in Wales who are investing over the winter months in capital expenditure improvements to raise quality standards in preparation for 2012.
Who can apply?
The Building for 2012 initiative is open to tourism SME businesses, anywhere in Wales.
What’s the timeframe?
To qualify for Building for 2012 funding, projects must be delivered by March 31, 2012.
What level of support can we provide?
In cash terms, it will normally be up to £25,000, up to 40% of eligible costs. This is a higher intervention rate for a limited period, with the usual rate for TISS support being circa 25%. The minimum support is £5,000. However, we will not exclude larger projects that meet eligibility rules and can complete by March 31st 2012.
How to apply?
It’s quick and easy to apply. All you need to do is complete an introductory questionnaire and if you’re successful we’ll ask you to complete an application form. We’ll be able to give a quick decision, usually within 10 working days. Further information on Building for 2012 available online.
What if I can’t deliver my project by March 31, 2012?
Tourism funding opportunities via the regular Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS) will continue as usual. To find out more or make an enquiry go online.
Is there funding available for larger projects?
Yes, the TISS fund can be up to £500,000 support. Additionally the Wales Economic Growth Fund (EGF) was recently launched. EGF is open from 12 December 2011 with a closing date of 31 January 2012 and funding will need to be spent by the 31 December 2012. Further information on the Wales Economic Growth Fund online.

Have you considered installing renewable technologies?
Plumbing, electrical and general construction companies will soon be transferring traditional skills to the installation of renewable technologies. To be part of the new Green economy, you need to upskill to achieve the MCS accreditation.
